Visiting Naples

Time goes on quickly and sooner than expected... it's time to pack our suitcases again and fly to Naples. There, we'll meet the rest of colleagues from the Czech Republic, Lithuania and Italy to discuss on the development of our project and to discover this south Italian town.

We spend the first morning at the school. Everybody at "Istituto Superiore Gentileschi" seems to know about our coming, we are warmly greeted by the headteacher and some other teachers and after being walked around the school premises our working day starts. The students tell us about the results of the surveys carried out in every country and show us the most popular songs in their homeland for different generations. They have all been very creative and prepared different things: a calendar, powerpoint presentations, photos, exhibitions, and even a small concert where we all end up singing some of the greatest Italian hits of the last thirty years. The Italian students also offer us a short introduction to the town and the rest of the day is spent on exchanging information and revising agreements and how the project is being developed, defining how to prepare an exhibition with all the materials the schools have produced and arranging the next meeting, which will take place in Utena next October. We also work on our E-twinning space and try to solve all the problems we came accross with when trying to register or enter activities. An important activity for this meeting is to choose the logo which is going to represent the whole project, one of the designs presented by the Lithuanian school is the winner.

After work, time to discover Naples, Mediterranean flavour everywhere. We feel as if we were in an Italian film with Sofia Loren: the hustle and bustle of the city centre, tourists and natives in the streets, the washing hanging out to dry over our heads across narrow steep streets and the small altars here and there, with flowers and lights offered to a saint or to the dead, cars and motorbikes coming and going non stop... A visit to the Neapolitan Opera House : Teatro San Carlo, during which we can enjoy the rehearsal of an Opera and a day trip to Sorrento round up our stay. And then, we cannot forget gastronomy, Mediterranean style again: pizza and pasta as it should be in Italy. Southern hospitality at its friendliest when we go and have dinner at the teachers' houses and we meet their families...some of us even dare try with karaoke!!!
