A recording studio visit - summary

Every school of the project chose a group of students who visited a recording or TV studio in their country. This is a summary of what the students experienced and how they personally participated in creating a record or even releasing a CD.

The Czech Republic

On 19th March 2014 students of SOŠ Luhačovice visited the centre of regional TV broadcasting called “TV Slovácko“. The studio is situated in Uherské Hradiště, which is a city located about 30 km far from the town of Luhačovice. Our students wanted to learn more about the procedure of recording and broadcasting  TV news.

It took us the whole morning to go through all the studio as the students turned to be really very interested in recording equipment. They could watch the studio staff working which attracted them a lot. Students had an opportunity to try the work of a sound engineer or a film cutter, the most courageous girls even happened to be news moderators for a couple of minutes. They experienced how difficult it is to read an unknown text from a reading device while standing in the blinding light of reflectors at the same time.

The others could try to read a text in a special reading room where they were shut just with a chair and a microphone to avoid surrounding sounds to come in. After the recording, the studio sound engineer showed us how a voice can be analyzed and modified to a final smart sound. For those students who tried the recording it was definitely an amazing experience.

The production manager showed us round the whole studio explaining the students the way how various types of equipment work. In my view, students were highly excited with modern camcorders and with broadcasting room itself. You can´t try to be a TV star every day, can you?

The studio manager also explained the students how a programme is made and what other activities are the studio members responsible for. Students evidently appreciated the fact that they were given some posters, stickers and the flash discs with their own recording attempts.

Lithuania - Utena

A pop group „Aušra“in the recording studio

Every year a pop group 'Ausra' goes to record their songs to the studio. The records are made by two groups of 'Ausra': juniors and seniors. A group of juniors recorded two songs such as "Mano bobute" and "Uodas“.In 2014, February we recorded three new songs: „Žiogo namas“, „Žaliojoj girelėj“ and „Gimtadienis“.The recorded songs are converted to CDs. In 2010, a pop group 'Ausra' released its album called „Vaikystės šalyje“.

The Lleida team

A group of Catalanian students visited a recording studio and could eperience what it is like to record a song or work as a TV reporter.

PREZI PRESENTATIONS - STUDENTS

Italy - Naples

On March 19th, 2014 Italian students arrived at the “RR sound studio” and tried to find out answers to the following questions concearning the process of recording a CD.

What are the steps to record a CD?

- PLANNING: the sound engineer and the singer plan what to do.

- RECORDING is the most important step. Instruments are recorded first and the voice after.

- MIXING is important to balance the volume so that the sound is better.

  • What is a sound proof panel?

It is like a “sponge“ that isolates annoying sounds. It is of upmost importance in a recording studio, but it should be also very important in schools, homes, hospitals … because it reduces noise pollution and helps concentration.

In this studio we sang a lithuanian song by The Ball & Chain named “Gera“.

To conclude, the TV or recording studio visits proved to be really successful and very challenging for the students. They were excited, took many photos, experienced a new kind of work and definitely enjoyed it.
